Natural Makeup?

After watching a disturbing episode of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe,  I have launched into investigating makeup products that are made with natural products and not animal by-products.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a vegetarian or vegan but after seeing a particular product that goes into making the creams and gelling agents in makeup, I felt a little ill.  Actually, I felt like throwing up and I don’t get queasy that quickly being that I work within the emergency services.  However, this particular episode grossed me out enough that I am serious about finding products that are mostly plant based and it’s been pretty tough to say the least.

I am not a fan of mineral makeup because it ages me.  I am one of the few people that looks horrible in this type of makeup.  I don’t want to, nor can I afford to pay $100 for foundation.  What is out there that I can use?

img_12641Yesterday,  I was reading through Shape magaine when I ran into an ad for Almay’s new natural products line.  Over 97% of the natural product line is made from plants.  I was pretty excited to see this, so I when I went to Target I immediately made a bee-line for the makeup aisle.  Sure enough, there it was!  Dissapointingly though, there are only a few items available.  I am hoping though that they will come out with more choices like mascara, eyeliner, and pressed powder.

I did buy a few of the items and I will let you know how it works out.  I was wondering if any of my dear readers might have any suggestions for natural based makeup and skincare?
