That Time of Year

Chinese New Year is only two weeks away and somehow, someway we have a CNY event to go to nearly every weekend until the end of February.  Our Families with Children From China group has an amazing group of families on the north side of Houston.  The group is so big that they have broken into smaller groups for smaller events.  Because we are friends with several families on that side of town, we have participated with them more this year.  Today the festivities were kicked off with a late lunch at a Chinese restaurant (had some awesome chow fun) and then some shopping at a local Chinese store.

It really makes my heart happy to see Catherine hang out with the other girls by her own choosing.  She really, really loves the older girls and wants to be a part of what they are doing.  Over the last couple of months she has even shown favor over certain kids.  She really does not like kids that are ‘in your face’ hyper.  She likes the kids that are more gentle with her and engage her in a more toned down sense of play.  There are three kids that I can think of off of the top of my head that always try to chase her or drag her around and she has now gotten to the point where she will run away from them or tell them ‘no!’  She has even told me on a few occasions that she does not like them.  I’m trying to figure out how to deal with that situation.  Anyway, I love seeing her make friends!  I can’t wait to see what this year’s CNY activities have in store for us! It’s one of my favorite holidays!

Sorry for the junky quality of the photos.  I can’t shoot a photo indoors to save my life and I didn’t bring my good camera with me.

A little bit more bright.  I don’t love it but I’m moving on.

December Daily- All That Glitters

December-1So, it’s December 1 and that means it’s time to start up the December Daily album again.  This year I am going to be making this album mostly digital but I will throw some hybrid pages in the mix too.  I ended up signing up for the 25 Days of Templates class over at ReneePearson.com.  I was bouncing back and forth between a couple of online classes that I could take in order to help me take this project up a level, well, someone on a message board highly suggested the 25 Days class.  It’s perfect for me because it teaches the fundamentals of using Photoshop to create layouts using templates.  All of this is designed around the time of year.  Hopefully after the end of this course, my December Daily album will be mostly done.  I am pretty thrilled with the class so far and it’s only day 1.  If you are a digi-scrapper and would like to do an album, whether it be a December Daily or an inspiration type album, I would highly suggest this class.

As you can see in my first layout, my design is fairly simple.  I think that I have come to that conclusion about my scrapping style.  I really, really, really want to be one of those fancy designers but I just can’t seem to create those types of pages that I admire so much.  What I keep coming back to is simple and classic.  I still beat myself up a bit about that though.  I feel like my family might be missing out on all of the sparkle and flowers and stickers and what not but I really do need to realize that this is who I am.  This is all that I can give right now.  Being so caught up in trying to be who I am not has prevented me from scrapping for long periods of time.  What’s more important is that I need to be document our lives as a family, so that Catherine will have something to look at when she is older.  I’m sure she won’t care about whether a page has more or less stickers on it but I still have to keep reminding myself of that.  Anyway, I love my Dec. 1 layout for the December Daily.

And this is the cover page.  Again, simple but elegant.
