About A&F

img_8459-copyWelcome to our little house on the world wide web!  I am a woman who wears many hats but my favorite roles are that of wife, mother and fire chaplain.

I am the wife to one incredible man who captured my heart on the snowy slopes of Utah back in 1995.  He is captain in the Houston Fire Department and his side job is supporting me in the work that I do.  He is a true hero to me.

I am the mother to one vivacious, easy-going, people-loving, busy-bodied little girl, whom we adopted from Fengdu, China in March of 2008.  We call her our little Texas tornado.

I am a Christian, who’s faith is flawed but every day I work to try and deepen that faith.

My family and my friends (who are my chosen family) are everything to me.

When I am not buried in family stuff or work, I can usually be found photographing, scrapping and blogging about the world around me.

My life’s work is devoted to the fire service.  I have been working within the industry since I was in high school.  Iimg_0595 worked as an industrial firefighter and volunteered until I was injured in the line of duty in 1997.  Because of my injuries, I started an organization that services the unique emotional and spiritual needs of emergency service workers.  This path led me to become a fire chaplain and to work with the families and departments of fallen firefighters here in Texas and all over the country.  I am also an advisor,  speaker, writer, and educator in the fire service in the areas of firefighter fatalities and injuries, safety and health, and fire chaplaincy.

I originally started this blog several years ago when we started the adoption process.  We wanted to keep our family informed of all of the news and updates every step of the way.  I also wanted to journal my work within the fire service and have a new way of reaching out to hurting firefighters and emergency medical workers.  This forum has quickly grown into something bigger and better than I ever could have imagined.  I have met some incredible people along the way.  Learned more than I ever could have imagined.  And I have grown on so many levels.  I use this blog now to keep my loved ones up to date on our family but also to continue to serve our emergency service workers.  I also showcase my hobbies and I like to write an occasional product review.

I hope you enjoy your time here at Adoption & Fire!  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you ever have a question or comment.

Blessings,

Wendy Norris
