Journal Spilling Comments Off
I received a new art journal for Christmas and I cracked it open the day I went to the Cenacle for my retreat. I pretty much finished two pages but they are too personal to share online, so I thought I would just give a quick glimpse into a spread that I am working on now about that particular retreat.
I have decided to really dive into the art journaling to help me come to terms with some different areas of my life. One of my best friends and I are using the art journals as a spiritual discovery tool. For me, expressing my faith and talking to God is easiest when I can put it on paper. It’s been a peaceful and wonderful journey thus far. Some days I just stare at the pages. Another day I might just lay down the foundations. Last night I sorted through an incredible pile of words and pictures that I had cut out 6 years ago. I also cut more words and photos out of old magazines.
For once, I have found an art process where I don’t feel like I have to compete with what I see in the magazines or with friends. I used to feel that way about scrapbooking. I enjoyed the craft for a while and then I started comparing my work to others and I pretty much just stopped altogether. Every once in a while I will throw a page together but mostly I am collecting our memories on the blog and through the journaling.
I have a few books that I am learning some techniques. I also have a few blogs that I like to read and am inspired by. But for now, I have no goals or plans for this…just to do and to be and that’s pretty much it.
