Just Updates 2
I hate to do this to you but right now life is just to hectic to write out a long post, so I am going to do the trusty bullet list to catch you up on life at the Norris household.
- The last few weeks have seemed to feel a bit odd and a bit off to me. Maybe it’s because we were hit with colder weather much sooner than normal and cold, wet weather always tends to throw me off even though I love it
- We celebrated our family Christmas day a bit early because we have other Christmas Day plans scheduled for this year, so in a way the holidays already feel like they are over
- We have been so busy since November that I feel like I can’t catch my breath. I love being busy and on the go but this week I have been feeling overwhelmed
- I’m planning this HUGE fundraising event for my organization and most days I’m totally excited about and every day I am feeling overwhelmed because it has become bigger than life
- Catherine is growing like a weed. I can barely pick her up anymore because she is getting so heavy (or I am just getting so weak). She also has a pretty bad case of the ‘bossy bug’ and the toddler ‘tude. She knows the words to a like 15 songs and she has several of her books memorized and can read them to us. I feel a bit intimidated by how smart she is
- I have been feeling a little sad, disappointed and discouraged about a few things lately
- I was doing pretty good with keeping up with my December Daily Album but I have fallen about 5 days behind schedule and I won’t be able to pick it back up until after the holidays
- I wish I could write and blog for a living
- Many pastors have to take what is called a sabbatical so they can rejuvenate themselves and continue their work of caring for others. Lately I have been wishing I could take a sabbatical so that I could work on a writing project that I have in mind/in the works, but that’s hard to do when you run your own organization
- Speaking of writing…I am reading an interesting book called Bad Good Mother by Ayelet Waldman. There is a lot of controversy about the book but I think it’s quite good
- Speaking of Bad Mother, while I have known for a long time that I will never win ‘Mother of the Year,’ I have been feeling like one for about a month now
- I’m looking forward to some vacation time
- I have some of the best friends in the world
- I feel super blessed to be a part of a group of families with girls from China. All of the parents are just awesome
- I really do love my work, it’s just draining sometimes
- I really do love my family
And I will leave you this video from the day it snowed in Houston:

Of course your work is draining…simply consider the nature of your work! It would be rewarding yet exhausting to ANYONE!
Also, if you have a lot of drive time, maybe you should start recording your thoughts on the book you want to write. Then you don’t have to “keep track” of them mentally or feel badly about not getting to write them down. The way when you do get the time to write, you have these things recorded.
I’m sure this is an incredibly busy time for you with the fundraising and planning you need to have done before your big event in just a few months, but take just 5 minutes (or 10!) to simply relax in whatever way is most relaxing for you.
Megan is in a similar phase right now…and it is INCREDIBLY exhausting. In fact, when I drove by the fire station today (after a particularly bad experience at the bank) and saw the “safe” sign…I’d be less than honest if I didn’t consider it…of course, I NEVER would, but…you know, sometimes I’m just spent.
Keep moving on!!! You’re an amazing lady with a great calling!

I like the bullets, so much going on for all of us. Working full time, we have grandchildren, busy with organizations, just seems there is not of me to go around. You sound happy and doing wonderful!
Have a Merry Christmas!
