Today was Catherine’s first day of her first year of preschool. We have been looking forward to this day for a few months now. She has been home with us full time since we brought her home last March. I think John and I were a little nervous because we weren’t sure how she was going to do being gone from us for 5 hours in a strange place. Plus, she was going to have to take a nap there so I wasn’t sure how that was going to work out.
We started taking her to a day care for a couple of hours each week to get her used to being away from us. She would cry when we dropped her off but she was good after a few minutes, so I knew it would probably be the same story with school.
She did wonderful! She did cry when we said goodbye but she ended up having a great day. She ate her lunch and even took her nap. I was pretty surprised by that. She is in the same class as a little girl that we met over the summer at Little Gym, so I think that eased some of her anxiety since she knew another child.
Now John on the other hand was a bit traumatized. I had managed to hug her and sneak out of the door. John said goodbye and she latched on and started crying. For the rest of the morning and early afternoon John was a bit melancholy. We did manage to keep pretty busy though, running errands and looking at cargo trailers for the LODD Task Force.
Catherine was happy to see us when we picked her up. I think she is going to have a great school year and really love the interaction with other children. Now John on the other hand, that’s going to be a whole other story!

I’m so glad she did well… that she cried at first and then had a great day in spite of the tears – that says a lot!
too cute!!
Poor daddy!
