Welcome to Adoption & Fire ⁸

For over a year I have been thinking about moving our blog over to a self hosted website that was powered by WordPress.  Most of the blogs that I have seen on WordPress or were self hosted looked more professional.  I originally started on Blogger but when I nearly lost all of my blog content due to hacking, I wanted a more secure location and so I packed up and moved over to Typepad.  They were a great company to go to as someone who had little blogging experience, however I think we outgrew the hosting and what they offered pretty quickly but I was just too busy to move on.

Right around the time we received our referral for Catherine, I started thinking about switching to a new hosting platform and so I began my research again.  I ran into a website called Serial Box Crime through a forum that discussed WordPress and all of the options that they offered.  Dan’s website drew me in because he had so much quality information and advice on using WordPress and so I quickly bookmarked it.  I ended up not switching over because we got so busy with going to China, adjusting to life with Catherine and really, just life in general.  I did continue to visit his site as well as a few others over the course of the year.

Finally in December I had had enough of Typepad and decided it was now or never and started the process again.  When I visited the Serial Box Crime site, I noticed Dan was offering a deal that was too good to pass up!  If I used one of his suggested hosting sites, he would build me a free blog.  I was all over that!

The switch was fairly painless on my side of things.  There have been a few hiccups and of course Typepad is not making this switch easy but I’m glad to finally be in our new house!  A HUGE thank you to Dan for doing such an awesome job!!  He was a God-send and has helped me out with so many different aspects to this move.

We are still ‘painting and decorating’ so don’t be surprised if you run into a few things that need to be fixed up.  We hope to get things tidied up soon.

I hope you love the new site as much as I do!  I plan on expanding different areas and doing more posts on the fire chaplaincy side of things.  I also plan on writing more about navigating through Chinese culture as an interracial, family that was put together by adoption.  I also plan on focusing more on my photography and digital scrapbooking.  I have big plans and I hope you will follow along!  Don’t forget to update your bookmarks or your feed readers with our new site!
