Sometimes We Sweep Glass 4
Firefighting isn’t always as glitzy and glamorous as one might believe. Sure, we get some good lifesaving medical calls every once in a while. And maybe if we are lucky, a spectacular fire breaks out once or twice a year and we get to jump into our yellow bunker gear and bright red trucks and save the day. On most days though, we do a lot more grunt work.
Last night for example, I had to sweep up glass from the scene of a car accident. No one was hurt, thank goodness, but there was a huge mess to clean up so that other citizens wouldn’t get hurt. So instead of dragging hoses out of the back of our truck, we pull out brooms. Instead of battling flames or cutting up a car, we push glass into garbage can and wash down oil spills. It’s not glamorous but it’s part of the job. Some days we just sweep glass.

Sounds like you and Floyd both had rough nights. He had a big grass fire and a house fire plus a bunch of med calls. We’ve been having at least one house fire a week lately.

No matter how you spend your day, you are still a hero in our house…
