Update on Ed. & New Books 2
It looks like we are going to ride out the storm here at the house. It sounds like the storm is not going to be awful, so we feel fairly comfortable with the decision to stay home John’s normal shift is tomorrow but he has to show up to the station several hours early because the storm is predicted to make landfall around the same time as shift change. They want to give the guys on today’s shift the chance to get home before the heavy rains and strong winds start rolling in. So, it looks like it’s just going to be Catherine and I and the dogs and cats.
I have some new books that I have heard rave reviews. I can’t wait to start reading them. It looks like tomorrow might be the perfect chance to do so. Here they are:
The Adoption Network: I really was interested in this book because it would be nice to have another adoption network group in our area other than Families with Children from China. It would be nice to meet others who have adopted domestically, from foster care, and from other countries. The book has some great ideas and lots of resources. Maybe one day I will have the time to put a group together. It was also given 5 stars on Amazon.
Before You Were Mine is a book about putting together a lifebook for your adopted child. The neat thing about this particular book is that it has a Christian perspective. Without going overboard on the religious aspects of adoption (which can be difficult for an adoptee), it does show parents how to gently weave their spirituality into the lifebook. I can’t wait to read this one.
Grace Based Parenting is a book that has been recommended to me several times. I have also seen it mentioned on several of my favorite blogs. It too has been given 5 stars on Amazon, so I am looking forward to reading this book for the advice and tips on parenting.
