We Are Not In Kansas, I Mean Texas, Anymore! 19
We survived our trans-continental flight to Hong Kong and we are here and doing very, very well. I am a little tired. John’s a little tired but so far so good!
Monday night, our small group threw us a sending off dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. Auntie Lisa and Uncle Ken brought a beautiful cake. About 16 people showed up, including the pastor of our new church and two friends Elizabeth and Ross who used to be in our small group. We were quite surprised to see them! It was wonderful to have everyone together in one place before we took off for the other side of the world. It meant so much to have them pray over us before we took off. We have such wonderful friends.
After the dinner, we quickly went home to repack because we had blown out one of our suitcases and the rolling duffle bag was too big. We also had about 20 little things left to do but we managed to get them done in time for John to take a quick nap and for me to just lay around. I couldn’t go to sleep even though I tried. I guess I was too excited!
We left for the airport at an ungodly time of the morning to catch the first leg of our flight. I slept through that flight since I had been up for practically 24 hours. Once we got to San Francisco and had a lay over of 3 hours, which went actually pretty quickly. Before we knew it, we were boarding our flight bound for Hong Kong. I was pretty nervous about the flight because I knew it would be a long one. I have some trouble with 4 hour flights, so 15 hours on an airplane freaks me out a little.
I just could not get over how big the plane was. I was so awestruck by it that the nervousness passed quickly. Even though we were in economy, the seats weren’t bad at all. As a matter of fact, I slept for about 90% of the flight. I ate, watched a show, slept, ate, and then slept again. The trip to Hong Kong was over with really quickly. The only bad part of the flight was the turbulence. I am not sure if it’s because we were sitting in the tail end section or if the whole plane felt it, but it got pretty bad at some points. Luckily I was taking Ambien, and slept through most of it.
We arrived in Hong Kong about 6pm. We got through customs fairly quickly. We took a train to Kowloon and then took a taxi to our hotel. That was an adventure! Hong Kong is amazing! I can’t wait to go out and explore! We are going to try and do some touring tomorrow depending on how we feel.
I love the hotel we are staying at. I found it for pretty cheap on travelocity but it pretty swanky. So we got quite the deal on this. We ate a buffet dinner there that had all kinds of eclectic foods, including cotton candy for dessert. I have already started my adventurous eating!
Hopefully tomorrow I can update the site again after we do some touring.
