Home Sweet Home 20
Despite one terrifying plane ride, nearly missing two connecting flights, and dealing with very nasty colds, we have made it back to the great State of Texas in one piece. We came home to an entourage of friends and family. It was so wonderful to see their faces when we got off that last plane. There is just something about a familiar, smiling face that is so comforting.
We had a pretty hectic day trying to make it back into the US. The in-China airline said they did not have a ticket for Catherine, so we had to buy her a new one. That particular ride was so aweful I thought we were going to crash in some countryside in China. Getting through customs was an interesting experience, especially when you only have 45 minutes to make your connecting flights. Luckily, they had pity on us and let us cut in line. By the grace of God we made it with just moments to spare. On the cross country flights they put us in three different seats, so I was pretty stressed about having to deal with Catherine on such a long flight by myself. John managed to talk some people into trading seats with us and we were all able to sit together. Catherine slept a good portion of that flight which was a huge relief. Once we landed in Chicago, she became a citizen of the US! We had one more flight to catch and then we were home. That was a pretty good flight and went by fairly quickly.
We are now home and trying to recover from the jet-lag and this aweful respiratory crud. Even my parents have something that they are fighting. Catherine seems to be adjusting to the time change a lot better than I thought. She is getting up in the middle of the night and crying for about two hours but she goes back to sleep and sleeps until about 10:30am. Each day seems to get a little bit better. It wouldn’t be nearly as tough if we weren’t so sick. Luckily we have wonderful family and friends who have stepped in to feed us, run errands for us, and help us with the basics.

Welcome back to the USA and Catherine’s new home!
We’ll check back periodically as we continue our adoption journey – loved reading your journal while in China – it helps those of us who need some insight into an American’s eyes for a totally different culture.
Blessings as you expand your family/
