Referral Day! 14

The weekend before referral day (Monday Feb 4) went by
pretty quickly.  I tried not to think about Monday because soon as I
started to focus on us getting the call I could feel my heart rate start to
rise.  I was so excited but I didn’t want the weekend to drag by because I
was thinking about it every second of the day.  In hindsight, I pretty
much was but we had a busy weekend so the time actually flew by for me.
John had to work on Superbowl Sunday, and he said it was a tortuously long day
for him.  Luckily my best friends managed to keep me entertained.

On Monday we were both so anxious.  The time just dragged on and we
thought the call would never come.  I kept wondering if would come in the
late afternoon and we would have to wait until Tuesday.  I wondered if DHL
got lost.  I wondered if our agency would forget to call us.  I was
being completely paranoid.  The other mother that we will be traveling
with to

China

was also anxious.  We both kept tag-teaming our agency with emails.
Our coordinator would email back pretty quickly.  When I sent the last
email, she didn’t respond so I started to wonder if DHL finally made it.
About 45 minutes the call came in and John and I made a mad dash for the phone
and the camera!  Caller ID is the best thing ever!  I answered the
phone and Kim said that we had a daughter!  I told her we were coming to
the agency right away and she told me drive slowly.

We drove to the agency and the whole time we were just giddy with
excitement.  I couldn’t wait to see what she looked like and how old she
was and where she was from!  We almost thought we were going to get pulled
over by the police at one point because we were speeding just a wee bit.
We made it to the agency safely though.

When we went into the office, our referral papers were on the counter with her
pictures upside down.  I couldn’t stop staring at them and I spaced out
for a second but Kim said to go ahead and look at the pictures.  I counted
to three and flipped them over and all I saw was her hair!  I started
yaying and jumping up and down!  I just could not get over how cute she
was and how much hair she had on that little head.  I was so, so
happy.  John kept staring at her and didn’t say too much.  He was in
shock I think.

After we got back home and made our rounds of phone calls and emails and visited with my Rebecca, we went to go visit Heidi and her family.  We then went out for a celebratory dinner with Lisa & Ken and Elisa & Scott at the Lucky 8 Chinese Restaurant.  How appropriate huh?  All of these people have been walking this long road with us and it felt so good to just celebrate with them.  Lisa (now known as Auntie L) and Ken brought us roses and a balloon.  It was just so sweet.

We finished the evening off with a glass of wine called Electra from Quady Winery in California.  I like it much better than champagne!

Referral Day was a good day!
